Background:

Tarum Development Organization (TDO) established in 1998 immediately after the signing of the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Accord. The CHT Accord of 1997 facilitated to end up decade long insurgency-counter insurgency activities and created a favorable environment for peace and development in the region. It has generated hope to the people of CHT. In this context, a group of young people in the Rangamati district come together to contribute to accelerate the process of socio-economic development in the CHT with a special focus on the issues of environment and development. The accord was the main guiding spirit of these young social workers to form the TDO.

TDO declares itself as a voluntary development organization. The nature of the activities of TDO are completely non-profit and non-political. It believes that the development activities should foster all section of the citizens of the country irrespective of their religion, race, caste, sex or place of birth.

TDO, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), follows the motto ‘no one will be left behind’ and aimed to contribute to achieve the SDGs.
